TEHRAN-Iran's exports of electricity to its neighboring countries showed six percent rise during the past Iranian calendar year of 1394 (which ended on March 20, 2016) and stood at over 10 billion kilowatt hours (kwh), IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the country's electricity trade surplus turned positive in the named period since exports volume was 2.5 times that of imports.

Iran exchanges energy with its neighbors namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Iraq, as well as the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and it could manage to export 10.24 billion kwh of electricity to Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan in the past Iranian year.

As the report said, Iraq, with imports of 7.71 billion kwh of electricity, was Tehran's first customer in the last year, while Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic came next, respectively.

Iran enjoyed a positive electricity trade balance with Iraq, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan in 1394.
