TEHRAN – “Mina’s Choice” director Kamal Tabrizi says his main motive in making the film is to give warnings to families about the danger of Daesh (also known as ISIS, ISIL and IS).
“Families are the prime target of these types of political movements that are everywhere in the world Daesh equals killing and massacre of ordinary people,” Tabrizi said in a review session held after a screening of the movie at Milad Tower on Saturday during the Fajr Film Festival.“What made me take on this project were the events our people experienced in 1980s about which other people in the world were not aware those years. But now everyone knows how some political groups disclose their ideologies by their despicable actions and this is why the entire world is now against Daesh,” Tabrizi explained.
“We experienced a type of Daesh in 1980s (referring to the terrorist group of Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization) and I wanted to remind the new generation that our security lies behind having gone through those days, while today it is the country of France that is experiencing this process”.
Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO or MeK) was set up in the mid-1960s to oppose the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. It participated in the country’s revolution but soon launched a campaign of assassinations and bombings in Iran after the group moved to Iraq in the early 1980s.
Producer Manuchehr Mohammadi, also attending the session, said, “MKO established a movement that is not limited to a specific era. No one could imagine that a movement like Daesh could be formed in this decade.
“If the movement had not been smashed in those early years, we could have faced [terrorist]activity on a broader scale today, like the difficult experiences Syria is going through these days,” Mohammadi added.
Starring Milad Keymaram and Mina Sadati, the film is about the happy marriage of Mina and Mehran, which is broken in the wake of mistrust and finally infidelity.
