TEHRAN – Iran’s Navy on Friday successfully test-fired a coast-to-sea cruise missile named Noor (light).

The missile was tested at the third day of naval maneuvers dubbed “Velayat 94”.
Navy chief Habibollah Sayyari told reporters that the test indicates Iran’s naval power.

The range of the cruise missile is 150 kilometers with high speed and precision, Sayyari added.

“Today, we were witnessing the roar of the coast-to-sea Noor missile,” Sayyari noted. “(The test) trembles the heart of any enemy.”

This “roar” demonstrates the powers of the Islamic republic “in the seas”, the admiral remarked.

The military drill started Wednesday near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil and gas trade route, included speedboats and submarines. The exercise was intended to bolster the country’s defenses against hypothetical enemies attempting to enter Ira’s waters.

Mahmoud Mousavi, the spokesman of the maneuver, also said on Friday that an unmanned surveillance drone had been flown over a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf and captured a video.

According to Press TV, a midget Ghadir-class submarine belonging to Iran’s Navy was also deployed close to the U.S. aircraft carrier with a mission to gather intelligence and capture footage, the report says.

The Iranian Navy on Thursday unveiled the country’s newest tactical radar in an ongoing naval exercise in the southeastern waters.

The new gear is a portable L-band radar system, a tactical radar that is employed in electronic warfare.

According to Mousavi, the new system is the first L-band radar mounted on a portable tactical station.

It is capable of detecting all moves above and below the water in a range of 150 kilometers, he added.

The commander said that efforts are underway to extend the range of the radar to more than 400 km.

He also noted that a broad range of sea-based X-band and S-band radars have been installed on the Navy’s different watercraft, some of which have been tested for the first time during the war game.
