TEHRAN - Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has said that Iran will ship nine tons of enriched uranium to Russia in future days.

“So far, 137 tons of yellow cake have been imported to Iran from Russia and we will export about nine tons of enriched uranium to Russia,” Ali Akbar Salehi said on the sidelines of a ceremony held to unveil achievements of knowledge-based corporations on Saturday.

Exporting nuclear fuel and importing yellow cake is part of the nuclear deal between Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany).

On Tuesday, the leading nations of the International Atomic Energy Agency approved a resolution that ends a decade-long probe of allegations that Iran worked on atomic arms.

The closure of the PMD officially sets the stage for the implementation of the nuclear deal between Iran and the six major powers.

Trading nuclear fuel for yellow cake shows that the nuclear deal is entering an implementation stage.

On Wednesday, Tehran’s envoy to the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency said Iran was working to implement the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

IAEA chief Yukiya Amano, responsible for verifying that Tehran has taken the necessary steps, said in an interview that it is “not impossible” that sanctions could be lifted in January, Reuters reported.
