TEHRAN -- A collection of paintings created by children from Sardasht on Iraq’s chemical attack on the Iranian town in 1987 has been showcased at an exhibition in The Hague.

The exhibit was organized by the Sardasht Chemical Victims Society on the sidelines of the 20th Session of the Conference of the States Parties of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a member of the society, Mehdi Nabati, told the Persian service of IRNA on Thursday.

The showcase aims to remind the OPCW member states about the expansion of war in the world, Nabati said.

The OPCW session was held from November 30 to December 2.

Iraq bombarded Sardasht in West Azerbaijan Province with chemical weapons on June 28, 1987, killing over 1000 and injuring over 8000 civilians, many of whom were permanently disabled.
