TEHRAN - Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran backs Russian counter-terrorism campaign in Syria and its assistance to the Syrian Army.

Moscow began its airstrikes against terrorists in Syria on September 30 upon a request from the Damascus government.

Tehran and Moscow have always supported the Syrian nation and the legitimate government of the country in fighting terrorism, Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday.

The deputy foreign minister also said the U.S. double-standard approach towards terrorism has fueled insecurity in the region and its silence over the war on Yemen has helped formation of a new terrorist stream in Yemen.

The international community should take the threat of terrorism in Syria, Iraq and Yemen very seriously, Amir-Abdollahian noted.
