TEHRAN - Spokesman of the Moderation and Development party has said if former Majlis (parliament) speaker Aliakbar Nateq-nouri does not run for the upcoming Majis elections, the party will choose Fatemeh Hashemi as its leader.

Since Hashemi is a party member, if she runs for the elections, the party will choose her as the party leader, Tasnim news agency quoted Qolamali Dehqan on Sunday.

However he said that the group prefers Nateq-nouri for being a moderate person who can draw favor from principlist, reformist, and moderate people.

The Moderation and Development party is a political faction that follows the political taste of President Hassan Rouhani. The members of the group consider themselves to stand somewhere between the principlist and reformist affiliations.

Fatemeh Hashemi is daughter to former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
