TEHRAN - Iran's Minister of Defense Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan says the country has increased the production of its strategic defense equipment in missile and marine sectors.

Dehqan made the remarks in a meeting with Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, on Wednesday after the lawmakers visited an exhibition displaying the Defense Ministry’s achievements.

Dehqan added that the Defense Ministry has increased research and industrial projects to supply weaponry to the Armed Forces and improve their defense capabilities, Press TV reported.

He also stressed the importance of improving the country’s defense preparedness and management capability.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
