TEHRAN - Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani has said that any foreign military intervention in Syria would be “unacceptable” and would spread crisis throughout the country.
The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant is a “global threat” and the countries that provide the group with support should be held accountable in future, he said in a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem in Tehran on Wednesday.Shamkhani added holding dialogue among Syrian factions to bring about national reconciliation is the only solution to the crisis in the war-torn country,
He also highlighted the importance of redoubling “political efforts” to resolve current crises in the Middle East region.
The Syrian foreign minister said adopting diplomatic approaches is the best way to settle the crisis in Syria.
Muallem said that reaching a long lasting solution to establish peace and security in the region depends on the stopping of providing support for terrorism by certain countries.
He also praised Iran’s support for the Syrian government and people.
Since 2011, Syria is facing a civil war which has claimed the lives of over 310,000 people.
