Iran, Syria sign security agreement

TEHRAN – Iran and Syria signed a security agreement in Tehran on Monday.
The agreement was signed between Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and his Syrian counterpart Mohammad al-Shaar.The two countries’ deputy interior ministers are tasked to implement the agreements that were signed between the two countries previously and the one that was signed on Monday, Rahmani Fazli said in a joint press conference with al-Shaar.
Rahmani Fazli also announced that Iran, Syria and Iraq plan to hold a trilateral summit in Baghdad.
The three countries that are involved in fight against terrorism, violence and extremism and resisting against Israel will expand their cooperation, he added.
The Iranian interior minister also said that Iran and Syria attach great importance to the fight against terrorist groups, particularly Daesh.
Rahmani Fazli stated that the Islamic countries in the Mideast region are duty bound to combat against terrorism and maintain unity and integrity.
For his part, the Syrian official stated that terrorist groups seek to undermine the Syrian resistance and cause harms to Iran and other Syrian allies.
Al-Shaar also called terrorism a “dangerous” threat to the region and said there is “strategic coordination” between Iran and Syria to counter terrorism.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he stated that the campaign against Daesh will be the most important issue to be discussed in the trilateral summit between Iran, Syria and Iraq.
