New dam comes on stream in western Iran

TEHRAN – A new dam came on stream on Tuesday in the western city of Shahrekord, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province.

The Sourak Dam is aimed to provide water for drinking and irrigation purposes, the IRNA news agency reported.

The dam was built at a cost of 410 billion rials (about $12.5 million). The project started in Iranian calendar year 1385 (March 2006-March 2007).

Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri and Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian officially inaugurated the dam.
