Iran’s two-month non-oil imports down 13.82%

TEHRAN- Iran imported $6.344 billion worth of non-oil products in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-May 21), a 13.82 percent drop compared to the same time last year, according to the Iran Customs Administration.


The country’s worth of non-oil exports stood at $7.861 billion in the mentioned two months, showing 2.66 percent fall from the same period of time in the previous year, the IRNA news agency reported on Tuesday.

Iran’s major exported products included propane, bitumen and polyethylene with the country’s key export destinations being China, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), India and Afghanistan.

The country’s main imported items were corn, rice, press cake, mining machinery and wheat with the main import origins being the UAE, China, South Korea, Turkey and India.

Iran has set a target of $77.5 billion in non-oil exports for the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21, according to Mojtaba Khosrotaj, the Iranian deputy industry, mining, and trade minister.
 
Iran’s total non-oil exports hit $49.744 billion in the previous Iranian calendar year, showing 18.87 percent rise from $41.848 billion in its preceding year, according to the Iran Customs Administration. 

The country’s non-oil imports reached $52.477 billion in the past year, with 5.57 percent growth compared to the year before. 

Traditionally, Iran relies heavily on oil for revenue. With sanctions restricting oil exports, the government has worked to advance other parts of the economy.
