Iran seeking to help Africa’s economic development, Larijani tells Kenyan speakers

TEHRAN – The visiting Kenyan Parliament speaker, Kenneth Marende, held talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani here on Thursday.
Larijani said Iran’s foreign policy toward African nations is to help them make economic development and also help end new colonialism in Africa.Larijani said major powers are still pursuing their colonial policies but in a new form.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said Majlis will spare no effort to help increase cooperation between Iran and African states in all areas.
He also called for joint investment in different areas such as energy, mine and medicine.
Marende also said Kenya is interested to expand comprehensive ties with Iran, saying there is sufficient potential for promoting cooperation in economy, industry and trades.
He said the purpose of his trip to Iran is to become acquainted with Iran’s capabilities and achievements, adding Iran’s rapid development in various areas including technological advancement has set the scene for improving cooperation between the two countries.
The Kenyan parliament speaker went on to say that Nairobi seeks to use Iran’s experience in different sectors.
The two speakers also signed a memorandum of understanding on parliamentary cooperation.
According to the MOU, the two parliaments pledged to support the expansion of ties in all areas and insisted on the right of every nation to master innovative technologies especially nuclear technology within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Larijani and Marende also insisted on the need to respect divine religions and condemned any acts that desecrate divine religions in any form
