TEHRAN – Tehran Traffic Police Chief Hadi Hashemi stated that the 3.8 million cars in the capital Tehran are so rundown that they create the same pollution that 48 million standard cars would.

“3.8 million cars in Tehran pollute the environment the same amount as 48 million standard cars would do,” Hashemi said on Thursday.
Over 80 percent of the air pollution in Tehran comes from substandard vehicles, he stated.
He underlined the importance of new and clean technology in tackling the problem of air pollution and added that the rules and regulations on air pollution should also be followed more stringently
