Iran, Oman Reach Agreement on Military, Logistical Cooperation

TEHRAN Iranian Minister of Defense Rear-Admiral Ali Shamkhani and Omani Minister of Defense Badr Bin Saud Bin Hareb Al-Busaidi in Tehran on Monday reached agreement to hold military and logistical cooperation. According to the agreement, the military experts of the two countries would be allowed to take part in military exercises to be launched by Iran and Oman. Al-Busaidi said a joint military friendship committee would follow up the two countries decisions on military cooperation.

He said there exists no obstacle to the implementation of the Tehran-Muscat military pact. The Omani minister of defense said an Omani delegation composed of military experts would visit the Islamic Republic of Iran soon to prepare the grounds for implementation of the accords. Al-Busaidi expressed hope that the military accord between Iran and Oman would set a pattern for defense cooperation among the regional states.

Shamkhani said the military accord between the two countries would serve the security and stability of the Persian Gulf region. Shamkhani accepted Al-Busaidi's proposal on participation of Iranian military experts in Oman's military exercises. The Omani minister of defense invited his Iranian counterpart to visit Oman. Shamkhani accepted the invitation to take place in an appropriate opportunity. Al-Busaidi wound up his three-day visit to Tehran and left Tehran on Monday afternoon.

He was seen off by his Iranian counterpart at the Tehran Airport. (IRNA)
