Iran finishes 4th in Intl. Biology Olympiad

TEHRAN – The Iranian team finished in fourth place in the 20th International Biology Olympiad, which is holding its closing ceremony today in Tsukuba, Japan.

Arya Haj Mirzaian won a gold medal and Arad Iranmehr, Fatemeh Kashani, and Fatemeh Moqaddas each won a silver medal in the competition where 220 students from 60 countries and territories took part, Young Researchers’ Club Public Relations Director Behzad Solatian told ISNA on Saturday.
The United States finished in first place, followed by Singapore and Taiwan.
The IBO is a competition for secondary school students in which their skills in tackling biological problems and conducting biological experiments are tested.
Every participating country sends four students, who won in national competitions.
In the 19th IBO in India in 2008, the Islamic Republic of Iran won two silver and two bronze medals.
