Iran wins CISM volleyball championship

RIO DE JANEIRO – Iran defeated Brazil in three sets on Monday winning the 30th CISM World Volleyball Championship.

Iran swept the host Brazil 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 at the Maracanazinho Gym and won the championship.
It is for the third time that Iran wins the title. Iran had won CISM World Volleyball Championship in 1968 (Tehran) and 1979 (Riyadh).
Iran won the title after a 100 percent record by beating Qatar, Brazil (two times), Finland, Canada and India.
Rahman Davoudi from Iran was named as the best scorer of the match with 15 points.
China beat India 3-0 and finished third in the event.
The German volleyball team defeated Italy 3-0 and won the championship in the female section. Greece beat Canada 3-0 and finished in third place.
The championship was held in Rio de Janeiro from June 21 to 30, 2009. It is an initiative of the International Council of Military Sports (CISM) and will serve as a preparatory event to the Military World Games V, in 2011
