TEHRAN -- Iran successfully tested a new generation surface-to-surface missile on Wednesday.

Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar stated that Defense Ministry experts conducted the test of the new generation surface-to-surface missile, called the Sejjil, which is a two-stage missile using compound solid fuel.
The missile has two compound solid fuel engines and has remarkable capabilities, he explained.
The Sejjil and its launcher system are entirely domestically produced and highly mobile, he added.
“This test was conducted in line with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defensive deterrence doctrine and its conventional missile activities, solely for defensive aims and to promote peace and stability in the region,” he said.
Najjar emphasized that the missile test was planned during the previous Iranian calendar year (March 2007-March 2008) and was not related to recent regional and international developments
