Iran active in IPU human rights, disarmament, women’s committees

VIENNA (IRNA) -- Iranian parliamentarians are active at human rights, disarmament and women committees of the Geneva-based Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Member of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Majlis Kazem Jalali said, ""Iranian MPs attended the Human rights committee of the IPU specialized to consider parliament's deputies complaints of their governments.""At the women's committee of the IPU, the women deputies discussed situation of the female deputies of the world parliaments.
Rapporteur of the Majlis commission added that Iran and four others countries proposal on considering the world current financial crisis was approved by General Assembly of the IPU the content of which will be drafted by respective committee tomorrow.
""The Iranian delegation will also attend actively at the disarmament committee on Tuesday.""
Inter-Parliamentary Union kicked off its work in Geneva on Monday and it is to discuss issues ranging from the world food crisis, Non-Proliferation Treaty, nuclear disarmament, recycling energy resources to freedom of expression and free flow of information.
In the 3-day session the deputies will consider membership application of several countries and elect new chairperson of the union for a period of 3 years.
