BEIRUT -- Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that the recent reconciliations in Lebanon do not necessitate the formation of new political alliances.

“Reconciliation aims at reducing tensions and to facilitate reaching peaceful parliamentary elections next year,” he told a crowd of supporters who gathered in Beirut's southern suburbs to commemorate Al-Qods Day.
“If the opposition wins in the next parliamentary elections, Hezbollah will insist on the formation of a national unity government ... we do not want to eliminate any party.”
“Lebanon cannot be ruled with the mentality of majorities and minorities ... Lebanon represents a special case and can only be ruled through cooperation between its different components,” he added.
Nasrallah said Hezbollah and its supporters were fully devoted to achieving reconciliation in Lebanon and were ready to do whatever it takes to reassure all the Lebanese and especially the citizens of Beirut.
He told the crowd that Hezbollah has participated in the recently-launched national dialogue with aim of building Lebanon's power.
“We are looking forward to build a powerful state in Lebanon and this shall be done through national unity,” he said.
The Hezbollah chief stressed that Lebanon's national strength cannot be built by waiting for permission from foreign parties in order to upgrade the capabilities of the armed forces.
“We should not wait for permission from Israel and the United States to upgrade the capabilities of the Lebanese army,” he said. “We need a brave decision to equip the army with new weapons in order to protect Lebanon without permission from any external side.”
“We should form a team of ministers with the duty of securing the necessary funds to build the military capabilities of the army and searching for markets to purchase weapons.”
Addressing the issue of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, Nasrallah said that the Lebanese government had the duty of helping the Palestinians to return to their homeland.
“In this regard, I support any constitutional amendment that bans the naturalizing of Palestinians in Lebanon,” he said.
“Meanwhile, the Lebanese government should provide the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon with the necessary humanitarian conditions to live a dignified life,” he added.
The Hezbollah leader also called on Arab states to help the Palestinians unify their ranks in order to be capable of confronting Israel.
He stressed that the only way to liberate Palestine was through resistance. “We cannot liberate our lands through begging other countries to help us do so ... we can only do that through resistance,” he said.
“I would like to tell you that the dreams of Zionists have faded away ... its time for us to implement our dreams and we have already started to do so.”
Nasrallah also said that it was an Arab responsibility to break the siege that is imposed on the Gaza Strip.
“I feel ashamed when I see foreigners travel to Palestine to help the Palestinian people when one billion Muslims are sitting and doing nothing.”
