TEHRAN -- The Iranian Academy of Arts is holding a seminar on art and culture of Iran’s nomads opening in August in Shahr-e Kord, Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province.

A group of scholars, experts, artists and researchers from different provinces of Isfahan, Khuzestan, Lorestan, and Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari are to take part in the two-day seminar on August 13 and 14, said an official from the academy.
Ali Qanbari explained that the seminar will focus on the central themes of nomads’ handicrafts, literature, music, and the music of migration.
Qanbari noted that the rich culture of Iranian nomads is of great interest to world experts and researchers, adding, “Iran enjoys a prominent position in the world considering its variety of nomads including Bakhtiar, Lor, Torkman, Kord, Baluch, Qashqaii and several others.”
He added that the seminar is organized to introduce the variety of art of the nomads and to provide the facility for the researchers and artists in the field of nomadic art and culture to meet.
“It also intends to encourage and support the young artists, and aims to review the forgotten arts of the nomads and discuss ways to revive them. It will also pay tribute to the veterans of nomadic art and culture,” he remarked.
An exhibition of art and handicrafts of the nomads will also open on the sidelines of the seminar.
Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Province possesses the second largest population of nomads after Fars Province.
Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the University of Shahr-e Kord, and the Provincial Iranology Office are to collaborate with the Iranian Academy of Arts.
