Persian pottery gleams in Land of the Rising Sun

TEHRAN –- The exhibit “Splendor of Iran’s Pottery” is currently taking place and will continue until June in Mitaka city, Japan.
Iran’s ambassador Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s cultural attaché in Tokyo Mohammad Ayatollahi, the mayor of Mitaka Keiko Kiyohara and the director of Mitaka’s Middle Eastern Culture Center, Yutaka Ikeda attended the opening ceremony on Friday.Speaking at the inauguration, Ikeda said that the exhibit, which comprises about 200 items of pottery dating back to the Ilkhanid, Seljuq and Safavid eras, evokes the atmosphere of ancient Persian civilizations.
Noted for his travels to Isfahan and Shiraz, Ikeda remarked that Iran has a rich and refined civilization with which Japanese citizens can become familiar by visiting the exhibition.
Kiyohara went on to say that people can come to a better understanding of Middle Eastern countries in general by visiting Iran’s ancient sites and by studying the country’s profound culture.
She went on to say that the pottery on display in the exhibit symbolizes ancient Persian civilization and that by holding such events a feeling of understanding can be cultivated between Iran and Japan.
Ayatollahi announced that Iran’s cultural attaché’s office in Tokyo is prepared to hold additional exhibitions in the future to further Japanese people’s understanding of Persian culture.
CDs and brochures on Iran’s tourist attractions and historical sites are being distributed to the exhibition’s visitors, he added.
