Georgian president seeks Poland's support for NATO bid

WARSAW (Chinaview) -- Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said Monday he had come to Poland to build a coalition supporting Georgia's NATO bid, stressing that Poland was now the main country that could help Georgia join the alliance.
Georgia hopes that it will be invited to negotiate its NATO membership during the forthcoming NATO summit in Bucharest, capital of Romania, according to Polish news agency PAP.During an official visit to Poland on March 2-3, Saakashvili met earlier in the day with Polish President Lech Kaczynski and announced that he would soon pay a visit to the United States and meet President George W. Bush ""who strongly supports Georgia's NATO bid.""
The Polish president declared that Poland was ready to support Georgia's efforts to join NATO and that it also supported Georgia's European prospects.
Later in the day the Georgian president also met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Parliamentary leaders and Warsaw University students.
