TEHRAN (IRNA) -- President Mahmud Ahmadinejad here on Sunday evening stressed the need for world Muslims to continue their support for the popular government of Palestine.

During a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar, the president said continued resistance, improvement of the standard of living and exposing the fake nature of the Zionist regime should be major priorities of the Hamas-led government of Palestine.

He urged all Palestinians to prepare the ground for liberation of Holy Qods by re-enforcing their solidarity.

"You (Palestinians) should intensify your resistance as it is the key to winning the battle against bullying and spurious powers," said the president.

Criticizing a number of Western heads of state for their support for the Zionist regime, the president said that exposure of the true nature of the Zionist regime would diminish support for its leaders and their advocates.

He urged holding of a referendum with the participation of all Palestinians inside and outside the Occupied Territories as a means of resolving the Palestinian conflict.

President Ahmadinejad reiterated the support of the Iranian nation and government for the Palestine nation and government.

Al-Zahar, for his part, praised Tehran's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and briefed the Iranian president on latest developments in the Occupied Territories as well as measures taken by the newly installed Hamas-led government.
