TEHRAN – A member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee has underscored the urgent need for Islamic nations to step up and address the ongoing atrocities perpetrated by the Zionist regime in Gaza.

Zohreh Elahian drew attention to the dire circumstances in Gaza, highlighting the continuous suffering of Palestinian people amidst the ongoing crisis since October 7.

“Despite global scrutiny from human rights organizations, the Zionist regime persists in its brutal actions against the resilient population of Gaza and Palestine,” the lawmaker noted.

Elahian lamented the loss of many innocent lives in Gaza, with the humanitarian situation worsening due to escalating famine and hunger.

Expressing disappointment in the passive response of international bodies like the United Nations and human rights organizations, the Iranian lawmaker criticized their neutral stance and limited intervention in the face of ongoing atrocities.

She also admonished certain Islamic countries for their ambiguous stance on Gaza, urging them to halt economic support to the Zionist regime instead of merely issuing condemnations.

Elahian stressed the necessity of imposing comprehensive sanctions against the usurping regime of Israel and highlighted Iran's diplomatic efforts in presenting proposals to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In her concluding remarks, she warned that negotiations would yield no results unless tangible actions are taken against the criminal acts of the Zionist regime. She cautioned that the current situation, exacerbated by the policies of the Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, would only deteriorate further without decisive action from the international community.

Israel initiated its U.S.-backed military offensive on besieged Gaza on October 7, following the Palestinian Resistance group's Operation Al-Aqsa Storm in retaliation for intensified Israeli atrocities against Palestinians. The ongoing aggression has resulted in the death of at least 31,341 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, with 73,134 others injured, according to the latest statistics from the Gaza health ministry.

The conflict has resulted in 85% of Gaza's residents being internally displaced, facing severe scarcities of essential resources like food, clean water, and medicine, as the majority of the region's infrastructure lies in ruins.

Gaza is grappling with critical food shortages after enduring over five months of warfare and blockade, resulting in numerous fatalities due to malnutrition and dehydration, particularly among children.

On January 26, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to cease genocidal actions and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza's civilian population.
