Passenger car imports down 8% in a year

TEHRAN- Iran’s imports of passenger cars in the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2018) show eight percent fall from its previous year, according to the data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

The IRICA data showed that the country imported 70,075 passenger cars valued at $1.838 billion in the past year, with 8.6 percent and 8.4 percent decrease in number and value, respectively, IRNA reported.

It is while Iranian carmakers have manufactured 1.534 million vehicles in the past calendar year which indicates 13.7 percent increase from 1.35 million cars manufactured in its preceding year.

Also as IRICA has previously announced, the value of Iran’s car imports during the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-May 21) fell 76.24 percent compared to the same period last year.

Iran imported 3,011 passenger cars worth $78.995 million in the first two months of this calendar year, with 73.35 percent decrease in number compared to the first two months of the previous year.

The country imported 11,297 passenger cars worth $332.534 million during the last year’s first two months.
