Farhadi: Tuberculosis Is Under Control in Iran

TEHRAN Health Minister Mohammad Farhadi left here for Geneva Sunday to attend the 51st General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), to open Monday. Prior to his departure, he told IRNA that among the issues to be raised in Geneva is the share of health budget of each member country from the gross national product with the objective to improve their health standard.
Tuberculosis in the world and measures to prevent the disease, trachoma-related blindness, leprosy and non-contagious diseases will also be discussed in the five-day gathering, he added. As for cases of tuberculosis and leprosy in Iran, the minister said that tuberculosis is being controlled in the country, while leprosy is seen only in few regions in Iran. Farhadi will meet his counterparts from other countries on the sidelines of the WHO General Assembly, attended by health ministers from 194 countries.
