| “Syrian opposition only seeking concessions with proposal to hold talks” |

The Iranian parliament speaker’s senior advisor on international affairs says that the Syrian opposition’s new proposal to hold talks with the government is a deceitful move that was only made to gain more concessions from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In an interview with ICANA, which is the news agency of the Majlis (parliament), on Tuesday, Hossein Sheikholeslam said, “After more than two years of armed fighting and terrorist acts against the Syrian people and government, opposition leader Moaz al-Khatib is now dubiously calling for the start of negotiations with the government.
“This indicates that the opposition has become disappointed with the military option, and it is looking for a more peaceful method to realize its objectives.
“This new tactic is only meant to gain more concessions from the government, and it should not be regarded as a genuine offer to establish peace and tranquility in Syria.”
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security personnel, have been killed in the violence.
The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals.
