TEHRAN – Qatar’s Al Gharafa is launching a bid for Osasuna Iranian midfielder Javad Nokounam.
The Iranian football skipper has also been linked with move to Esteghlal.
“I like to continue my career in Spain. I’ve had good times at Osasuna and my friends have advised me to stay here,” Nekounam was quoted as saying by Qatari website Al Kaas on Sunday.
Al Gharafa has offered a €2 million deal to Nekounam and they will have to also pay €2 million to Osasuna to release the player.
Alternatively, Nekounam could remain at La Liga outfit Osasuna if he accepts a salary reduction.
Navarro Sport claims Nekounam is the highest paid player at the financially-embattled Osasuna club.
According to the report, Osasuna management is currently discussing with Nekounam's agent a suitable contract adaption.
Nekounam joined Osasuna in 2006 and has made more than 150 appearances for the Spanish club.
