Speaking to an Iranian television channel, Queiroz stated, “When I was appointed as Iran football coach the federation said main objective is to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They didn’t say me they want to win the World Cup at all.”

He added, ”At the moment, we just want to advance to the event and our problem is that some people think we have to qualify for the competitions in 2014 while I believed that this June is vital for us.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Queiroz, who has worked with Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester United football team as an assistant, lauded Ferguson because of what he has done at the Old Trafford.

He said, “I’ve been with Ferguson for six years. I know things about him that majority of people don’t know. He has a tremendous sense of humor and I think it’s the best medicine for football.

“He (Ferguson) chews gum since gum contains sugar and it helps his brain to make the better decision,” the 58-year-old noted.

Queiroz also talked about his countryman Jose Mourinho, saying, “He (Mourinho) has a special character. You must love him or hate him. Most of the coaches don’t find out what he says and he also doesn’t understand what they say.”

Queiroz, who has coached Real Madrid in 2003-04 season, said, “I was Real Madrid coach for a while. When you work in a team you will always love it. Of course, I have a lot of respect for Barcelona.”

“At the moment, Barcelona is conducting a football symphony. Pep Guardiola is important for Barcelona as well as each player is,” Queiroz concluded.
