|Iran marches into FIBA Asia Cup final||
Iran advanced to the final match of the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup in Tokyo, Japan by beating the Philippines on Friday.
The Iranian basketball team beat the Philippines 77-60 and will face host Japan on Saturday. Iran has already defeated Japan 71–65 in the preliminary round.
“We analyzed all the Philippine games. We knew we have to put pressure on defense. If we can play good defense, we have a good chance to beat them,” said Iran’s player Oshin Sahakian.
Iran’s Hamed Afagh was on top of the score sheet with 14 points. Lewis Alfred V. Tenorio and Jared Dillinger were the Philippines’ top scorers with 13 points each.
The first team will book a berth in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship which will be held in Manila, the Philippines.
The FIBA Asia Cup was played since 2004, then 2008 and 2010. Qatar was champion in 2004 in Taipei, Jordan won the title in 2008 in Kuwait, while Lebanon won the crown in Beirut in 2010.
