Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan resumes activities

TEHRAN - The Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mohammad Baqer Bahrami, who had been recently recalled, resumed his activities at the Iranian Embassy in Baku on Friday. 
 
Ambassador Bahrami were recalled for consultations on May 21 in protest at the desecration of religious sanctities and insults shouted at high-ranking Iranian officials during a demonstration outside the Iranian Embassy in Baku on May 11. 
 
The Iranian Ministry summoned Azeri Ambassador to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov on May 22 over the issue.
 
Azerbaijan banned the head of the culture department of Iran’s Supreme Leadership from entering the country on May 28. 
 
The Iranian Embassy in Baku issued a statement on May 29 calling the move “undiplomatic”.   
 
The embassy said that the official was turned back at Baku International Airport.
