Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, a graduate of Sharif University of Technology in chemical engineering and an official at the Natanz nuclear enrichment facility, was assassinated in Tehran on January 11 when a magnetic bomb attached to his car detonated. “A number of people who had a hand in the assassination of Martyr Ahmadi-Roshan have been arrested,” Larijani said. “Investigation is underway to identify the terrorists and details about the assassination,” he added. Larijani also said, “Iran will not remain silent about the assassination of Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, its nuclear scientist, by the Zionist regime.” “(But) Iran’s response to the assassination of its scientists will not be similar to the action by the Zionist regime which carries out assassination operations,” he noted. Iran has plans for possible oil embargo In reply to a question about European Union governments’ initial agreement to ban Iran’s oil import, Larijani said, “Iran has prepared a plan to respond to a possible embargo on its oil exports.” Iran has no problem with 5+1 talks in Turkey On the continuation of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany), Larijani said, “Iran does not have any problem with the holding of talks with the 5+1 on its peaceful nuclear program on Turkish soil.” Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, in his visit to Tehran on January 4 and 5, carried a message from EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to Iranian officials for a resumption of nuclear talks. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi also said at a joint press conference with Davutoglu on January 5 that the Islamic Republic is ready to resume talks with the 5+1 group at a time and place agreed by both sides. Later, the Turkish foreign minister announced that Turkey will host new rounds of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group in the near future.
