A ceasefire went into effect in and around the Gaza Strip late on Wednesday, after Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire after eight days of attacks in which 162 Palestinians and five Israelis were killed.
Many Palestinians in Gaza City took to the streets to celebrate the truce on Wednesday night, blasting car horns and setting off fireworks from rooftops amid celebratory gunfire, Al Jazeera reported.
Ahmadinejad stated, “Undoubtedly, the Zionists have reached the end of the line and have no option but to recognize the Palestinian nation’s inalienable right, and with the grace of God, we will together witness the liberation of the holy al-Quds.”
“The recent victory of the people of Gaza and the resistance illustrated that the only way to save Palestine and promote justice in this land is the path that you have taken today,” he added.
During another telephone conversation with democratically elected Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniya on Saturday, the Iranian president congratulated the people of Gaza and the resistance on their great victory against Israel.
Haniya also thanked Iran for supporting the Palestinian nation and said that the resistance movement will stand by the Palestinian people and will not abandon its principles.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast also said on Friday that the Islamic resistance’s victory in Gaza was the result of the Palestinian nation’s resistance against the Zionist regime’s aggression and the era of Israel’s tyranny and presumption has come to an end.
