Restoration and strengthening operations of Zangoleh Dome start

TEHRAN—Head of Damghan Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department Mojtaba Akbarpour gave news of restoration and strengthening operations of Zangoleh Dome in Damghan, Semnan province.
Visiting the historical monuments of Damghan on Saturday, he said that the purpose of this action was to prevent erosion of the historical monument, Mehr news agency reported.
He pointed out that the restoration of Zongoleh Dome is underway, adding that given the erosion of the building, this measure is a step in line of preventing its destruction.
Stating that the building dates back to the 7th century AH, he added: “To prevent moisture from penetrating into the building, its restoration is on the agenda.”
He continued that the worn layers will be removed, adding: “After preparing the surfaces, the repair work will be carried out with homogeneous materials.”
Akbarpour emphasized that ensuring the stability of the dome is very crucial, and stated: “For this purpose, restoration work is being carried out to prevent damage to the upper parts of the building.”
Next, new thatch coating will be applied to the walls, seams, and remains of the dome to strengthen it and provide insulation against weather changes, he added.
The historical monument of Zangoleh Dome of Damghan has been registered under the number 650 on National Heritage List.
Damghan, located about 350 km east of Tehran, is one of Iran’s oldest cities and home to several historical monuments, caravanserais and religious sites. Remnants of its ancient battlements, once described in historical accounts as wide enough for chariots, still stand on the city’s outskirts.
