No cheetah on Iran kit in 2022 World Cup
TEHRAN - Iran football federation officially launched their new home and away kits for the 2022 World Cup but cheetah has been removed from the jerseys.
The new set of kits, made by Iranian supplier Majid, were revealed in Tehran’s Milad Tower Tuesday night.
Iran coach Carlos Queiroz didn’t participate in the ceremony.
Iran are called the Lions or the Princes of Persia. They are not called the Cheetahs. Iran have competed at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups with a cheetah on their shirts but they will play without it in Qatar.
The kit was supposed to bring awareness to the Asiatic cheetahs, which are facing the threat of extinction.
The World Cup is pretty good place to raise awareness for something.
Team Melli will start the prestigious campaign on Nov. 21 with a match against England.
Iran will meet Wales on Nov. 25, while play the U.S. four days later.
