Iran win Women Classic International Tournament
TEHRAN – The Iranian women wrestling team made history by winning the First International Tournament Women Classic Style on Sunday.
Iran claimed two gold and two bronze medals in the two-day tournament held in Beirut, Lebanon.
Fatemeh Nikbakht took the gold medal in the 60kg after defeating opponents from Syria, Georgia and Iraq.
Masoumeh Khanlar won Iran’s second gold, beating Syrian and Iraqi rivals.
In the 50kg category, Fatemeh Mohammadi defeated a wrestler from Kyrgyzstan in the bronze medal match.
Zahra Yazdani also claimed the bronze medal in the 55kg. She defeated her Kyrgyz rival in the third-placed match.
The Top three athletes received 500 USD, 300 USD and 200 USD respectively.
The Iranian women wrestling team is headed by Maryam Hosseini.
Iran claimed the team title with 99 points, followed by Iraq (83) and Syria (67) points.
