Mina Sadati wins supporting actress Tiantan for “Searing Summer”

TEHRAN – Mina Sadati has won the Tiantan for best supporting actress for her role in the Iranian drama “Searing Summer” at the Beijing International Film Festival in China.

She received the award during the closing ceremony of the event in the Chinese capital on Sunday, the organizers announced.

Directed by Ebrahim Irajzad, the movie is about Nasrin (Sadati) whose domestic life is not happy. She knows that she cannot get custody of her daughter in case of divorce. So she covertly takes her to live in an unknown location somewhere in Tehran. However, her husband finds them.

“Scary Mother”, a co-production between Georgia and Estonia, was crowned best film. In the film directed by Ana Urushadze, a 50-year-old housewife faces with the dilemma of choosing between her family life and her passion, writing.

Mariam Khatchvani from Georgia was named best director for her film “Dede” co-produced by Georgia, Qatar, Ireland, the Netherlands and Croatia.

The Tiantan for best actor went to Joe Cole for his part in “Eye on Juliet” by Kim Nguyen from Canada while Nata Murvanidze won the award for best actress for her role in “Scary Mother”.

“Journey’s End” by Saul Dibb from England brought Paul Bettany the award for best supporting actor.

“The Testament”, a Holocaust story by director/writer Amichai Greenberg, received the Tiantan award for best screenplay. The film has been co-produced by Israel and Austria.
