AIIB ready to finance Iran’s infrastructure projects

TEHRAN – The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is ready to finance infrastructure projects in Iran, the bank’s president said on Wednesday.
In a meeting with the visiting Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi in Beijing, the AIIB president Jin Liqun referred to Iran’s role in the establishment of the AIIB, adding that the bank is also ready to help Iran with rehabilitation and reconstruction of old buildings in the country.
Akhoundi, for his part, expressed Iran’s plan to develop infrastructures in various sectors of air, rail, and road transportation via taking advantage of AIIB financial resources and credits with the frame of Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) and Build–Lease–Transfer (BLT) contracts.
Heading a delegation, Akhoundi arrived in Beijing on Monday to discuss cooperation between the two countries in the field of transportation.
AIIB is a multilateral development bank conceived for the 21st century. It is a modern knowledge-based institution, focuses on the development of infrastructure and other productive sectors in Asia, including energy and power, transportation and telecommunications, rural infrastructure and agriculture development, water supply and sanitation, environmental protection, urban development and logistics, etc.
