Iranian cinema dominates Indian festival

TEHRAN – Iranian films won six awards and an honorable mention during the closing ceremony of the 13th We Care Film Festival in New Delhi, India last Friday.

“Here” directed by Sina Shafiei won first prize for the Up to 1 Minute category while “Hands for Father” by Nasim Madadi won third prize in this section.

“Fish and I” by Babak Habibfar received first prize for the Up to 5 Minute category and “The Known Silence” by Mehdi Qorbani won third prize in this part.

“Our Little Circle” by Mohammad-Fazel Purabutaleb and “The Steps of One” by Kiumars Samadi-Tari won first and second prizes in the Up to 60 Minute category.

“When a Ray of Light Shines” by Shahriar Purseyyedian received an honorable mention in the Up to 30 Minutes category.

This year’s festival screened over 900 short films and documentaries from about 100 countries, including Iran, Lebanon, Italy, Myanmar, the United Kingdom and Poland in over 125 venues in India, France, Kuwait, Iran and several other countries.

The We Care Film Festival is held annually from January to May to raise awareness about disability issues, and to dispel misconceptions and prejudices about people with disabilities.
