Iran favors strategic cooperation with Africa
TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Monday that Tehran is ready to help implement strategic development projects in Africa.
Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Deng Alor in Tehran on Monday. At the meeting, the two sides reviewed expansion of Tehran-Khartoum relations. Mottaki said that both sides have high capacity for expansion of cooperation in energy as well as agriculture sectors. There are untapped natural resources in Sudan which are quite suitable for investment by Iranian investors and companies, he noted. The Sudanese minister also said that Iran is a good friend of Sudan and has contributed to the country's development projects. He said he has visited Tehran to inform Iranian officials of the latest developments in his country and also urge Tehran to invest in Sudan. Iran’s foreign minister said some of the problems facing the African continent are due to interference of foreigners. The current impasse in the Darfur region could be resolved in the same way as the crisis in southern Sudan, Mottaki noted.
