Iran water polo team beats Kazakhstan
TEHRAN (Press TV) -- Iran’s water polo team has clinched a victory against Kazakhstan at the FINA Men’s Water Polo Olympic Games Qualifiers in Romania.
In its first win of the tournament, Iran edged out Kazakhstan 7-4 with Amir Hossein Khani, star of the match, scoring three goals.
Ali-Reza Shahidpour, Iran’s goalkeeper, was also one of the top contenders in the team.
Kazakhstan now goes to the 11th and 12th play-off while Iran can finish as high as 7th.
According to competition rules, the top four squads will join China, the United States, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, Australia, and Montenegro at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Germany and Greece have already qualified for the Olympic Games after becoming the top two teams in their respective groups in the tournament.
Iran is slated to take on Slovakia today.
