Tehran conference on Palestine brings intl. officials, scholars together

altTEHRAN – The fifth international conference for defending the Palestinian Intifada, which has brought together high-ranking officials and scholars from about 70 countries, will begin on Saturday at the IRIB International Conference Center in Tehran. 

The conference will close on Sunday. 

The main purposes of the conference are to help efforts meant to restore the rights of the Palestinians, liberate all the occupied territories, including occupied holy Qods, and help the Palestinians determine their own destiny. 

According to Director of the Secretariat of the Conference Hossein Sheikholeslam, 16 parliament speakers and eight deputy parliament speakers have accepted the invitation to attend the conference. 

Palestine, Indonesia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, the Comoros, Kuwait, Mauritania, Paraguay, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Denmark, and Canada are among the countries which have decided to send representatives to the conference. 

According to IRNA, the first international conference in support of the Palestinian Intifada was held in Tehran in October 1991. The Madrid Conference was held in the same year. 

The second conference was held in Tehran in April 2001. The second Intifada, also known as the al-Aqsa Intifada, began in the same year.  

The third conference in support of Intifada was also held in Tehran in April 2006 after some parts of Al-Aqsa Mosque were destroyed by the Zionist regime. 

The fourth conference on Intifada was held in Tehran in March 2009. Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Strip in the same year.
