| Paraguay keen to expand ties with Iran |

TEHRAN – The president of the Chamber of Senators of Paraguay has said that Asuncion is keen to expand relations with the Islamic Republic in all spheres.In a recent meeting between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Ahani and the presidents of the Chamber of Senators and Chamber of Deputies of Paraguay, the two sides discussed political, economic and parliamentary cooperation, the Fars News Agency reported on Sunday. During the meeting, the president of the Chamber of Senators emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Asuncion and said independent countries are free to establish and develop relations with each other. “Paraguay would also attach great importance to ties with Iran within the same framework,” he added. Ahani also held talks with his counterpart as well as Paraguayan Foreign Minister Jorge Lara Castro. In his meeting with the foreign minister, Ahani said the two countries are planning to sign a number of memorandums of understanding, and it is hoped that by implementing them, an important development would occur in Tehran- Asuncion ties. Lara Castro also pointed that his country is undergoing major developments in political and economic arenas, and said expansion of ties with Iran has become one of the main objectives of Paraguayan government’s foreign policy. He also expressed hope that interactions between delegations of the two countries would pave the way for closer ties with Tehran in all areas.
