TEHRAN -- The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Director Ezzatollah Zarghami has met with some officials of South Korean media in Seoul.

Zarghami has traveled to the country to attend the 49th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), which opened on October 11 and ends today.

Zarghami met Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) Director Kim In-Kyu last week.

He referred to the cultural affinities between Iran and South Korea and urged expansion of relations between the IRIB and the KBS.

Boosting cooperation and sharing technical experience between two countries would lead to better mutual understanding between two nations, Kim In-Kyu said during the meeting.

Potentials for media cooperation between Korean and IRIB were also discussed during meetings with some other Korean officials.

Zarghami also visited officials from Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The ABU, which is a non-profit and non-government association, was established in 1964 to assist the development of broadcasting in the region.

The union promotes the collective interests of television and radio broadcasters, and encourages regional and international cooperation between broadcasters.
