Expediency Head Inspects Kerman-Zahedan Railroad

KERMAN - The Head of Expediency Council, Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on his second day of the trip to the southern province of Kerman inspected Kerman-Zahedan railroad construction works here Monday. Briefing the expediency head, the Deputy of Iran's Railroad Construction Works, Ahmad Afshar said the project of constructing a 540-kilometers of railroad expected to link Kerman with Zahedan, was initiated in 1996 with the budget allocation of Rls.700 billion.

He said, the railroad would eventually link Iran with southeast Asian countries from the South and European countries from the North. Afshar went on to say," the whole project has been segmented into 24 phases and that if further Rls.60 billion was pumped in, 11 phases could be completed by next year, adding that government has already allocated Rls.25 billion in the current year.

Rafsanjani also inspected fero-chromium industrial complex under-construction enroute to Bam. Over $1 million in hard currency and Rls.20 billion in domestic currency have been allocated for the construction for the industry. (IRNA)
