Ayatollah Yazdi: Drug Offenders to Be Segregated

BANDAR LENGEH, Hormuzgan Head of the Judiciary Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi here Sunday night said that drug offenders throughout the country will be segregated from other prisoners. Ayatollah Yazdi told reporters that the plan for the project has been approved by the Expediency Council and will soon be implemented in Bandar Abbas and Bandar Lengeh, the port cities of Hormuzgan Province, to be followed by other cities.
He stated that according to the plan narcotic convicts will be kept in camps instead of jails, adding that courts have been instructed to state in the ruling whether the convict should spent their term in jail or a camp. The Judiciary chief said that inmates other than drug offenders with a fine of less than Rls.500,000 will be freed and the money will be paid to the government by the Judiciary. During his two-day stay in the province, Ayatollah Yazdi reviewed judicial issues and met with provincial officials, Friday prayer leaders and families of the martyrs.
The Judiciary head arrived in Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province, on Monday and said while in province he is to review judicial cases, hold open court for family affairs and meet the clergies. (IRNA)
